Rahul resigns, the stalemate continues

CongressChief Rahul Gandhi is still adamant with his decision of not taking hisresignation back and said that a new party president will be chosen within aweek.

Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said to media persons that the party should choose a new president quickly and without further delay and that he was not part of the process at all as he had already resigned.

He furtherstated that the party should decide on the new president without further delayadding, "I am nowhere in those process. I have already submitted my resignationand I am no longer the party president."

Gandhialso said that the Congress Working Committee (CWC) which is the party's topdecision-making body should call a meeting at the earliest and decide on a newchief.

According to sources, Congress Veteran Motilal Vora is likely to replace him as party president.

It was during the May 25 meeting of CWC that Gandhi had offered to quit as the party chief which was called to analyze the party's poor performance in the Lok Sabha polls, in which it managed to win just 52 seats.
