Asian Games Update: Day 8 review

It was a fantastic Sunday for India at the 18th Asian Games Jakarta, Indonesia as Indian players have managed to capture a bunch of medals on the 8th day of the multi-sporting international event. Team India won 5 silver and 2 bronze medals on the day. Badminton ace Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu stormed into the women's singles semis with historic and thumping victories against Thai opponent Ratchanok Intanon and Nitchaon Jundapol.

Indian athletes 'Dhing express' Hima Das, Dutee Chand, Muhammed Anas Yahiya, Fouaad Mirza were the among who made the nation proud and raised the Indian medals tally. In the 10,000-meter category, India faced a major setback as racer Govindan Lakshmanan, who first awarded the bronze, missed the medal as he got disqualified after an official review.

On the other hand Assam boy Pugilist Shiva Thapa lost the pre-quarter final to Chinese boxer Jun Shan in Asian games. Thapa was in action in the 60kg boxing category of Asiad boxing round of 16 on Sunday evening.
