Ranji Trophy Day 1 Review: A mix day for the Assam batsmen

Pratidin Bureau

Another home game and another test for the Assam batsmen early on. Haryana won the toss and opted to bowl first in which seemed like a decent batting wicket. The first hour was crucial but the openers, unlike last time, saw it through.

Rishav Das and Pervez Aziz gave Assam a decent start in Round 4 in the Elite Group C encounter against Haryana. The early overs had something for the bowlers but both the openers handled it well. IPL star Harshal Patel gave Haryana the first breakthrough when he dismissed Rishav in the 18th over. But Pervez Aziz and Sibsankar Roy played well in tandem and took the innings forward. Both of them got starts but could not capitalize. But the star of the innings was definitely Gokul Sharma, who made a comeback in this game replacing the injured Riyan Parag.

At the end of day's play, Gokul is playing unbeaten at 51. Arup Das is also with him who played some amazing counter attacking shots to take Assam's score to 215-6 at the end of Day 1. For Haryana, India allrounder Jayant Yadav was the pick of the bowlers and picked up 2 wickets. Assam's fate now lies on how Gokul Sharma and Arup Das handles the morning session tomorrow.
