YouTube is reportedly releasing a new tool to curb the menace of videos getting stolen or replicated. The tool lets creators see if their videos are being stolen and take appropriate action against it.

The tool, which is called the 'Copyright Match' tool by YouTube, is designed to scan and check if the content already exists on the site or is similar to other videos. It will not identify clips, only complete videos.

The service will be available for creators with over 100,000 subscribers starting next week. Over the next few months, it will roll out to more users.

Original creators will be notified if a copy of their video surfaces on the platform. However, the tool only considers the first uploader as the original creator. So if someone else copies a video that's already on Vimeo or Facebook, the tool might be faulty in such situations.
