15 Killed in Train Collision at Bangladesh

At least 15 people were killed and 58 others injured when two trains collided in eastern Bangladesh on Tuesday morning.

Threecoaches were sent tumbling off the tracks at Mondolbhag station in the town ofKasba when a Dhaka-bound intercity train and a locomotive bound for Chittagongcollided.

Localpolice Chief Anisur Rahman while speaking to reporters said, "At least 15people have been killed. And another 58 were injured. We have sent the injuredto different hospitals in the region."

Thepolice official said that the train services out of Dhaka had been halted afterthe accident.

Thecircumstances surrounding the accident were under investigation, a railwayofficial told reporters.

"Weare still conducting a rescue operation," he said, adding that faultysignalling could have been to blame.

Accordingto reports, train accidents are common in Bangladesh and are often caused bypoor signalling or other rundown infrastructure.
