A former 80 year old Pakistani judge, named Sikandar Hayat, was on Saturday found to have over 2,200 cars registered in his name.

However, legal counsel of Hayat, Mian Zafar told the Pakistan Supreme Court that his client owned just one car. "2,224 cars were registered in the name of my client," Zafar said.

Hayat's lawyer further stated that a few days ago, the former judge had received a  fine for a car that he didn't own. After the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department was informed about the same, it surfaced that Hayat was the registered owner of as many as 2,224 vehicles.

The Pakistan Supreme Court  has directed the secretary and the director of the Punjab excise department to file a report in the matter.

The court has sought the report within a week.

It is to be mentioned that  the Imran Khan government in Pakistan has had to sell off more than 60 luxury cars owned by the government as part of austerity measures to aid the cash-strapped country.

The government had also auctioned off eight buffaloes that belonged to Khan's predecessor Nawaz Sharif at the PM House.

A total of Rs 2,302,000 was earned by the Pakistan government after the sale of three buffaloes and five claves, the Dawn reported. On the other hand, it had reportedly raised Rs 200 million with the auction of the luxury cars.
