40 dead, many feared buried after Brazil dam collapse

In a sensational incident near Belo Horizonte City in southeast Brazil, at least forty people were killed, and more than 300 others went missing, after a dam burst at an iron ore mine. The local authorities informed that the dam collapse caused severe flooding in the State of Minas Gerais.

Causing a mudslide on Friday afternoon, the dam designed to hold back mining waste collapsed Brumadinho Municipality. The mudslide collapsed the office of Vale, the company managing the iron mine.

More than 100 firefighters and civil rescuers were working at the site. Meanwhile, the fire service informed media that helicopters were used at various spots to rescue "numerous" people trapped by the mud.
