Iran to re-negotiate deal with five world powers sans USA

Pratidin Bureau

The foreign ministers of Britain, China, France, Germany and Russia will meet Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif in Vienna on Friday for talks on the disturbed accord for the first time since Washington pulled out of it in May 2018.

As per reports, the ministers will discuss an "incentive package" offered by the European Union to persuade Iran to stay in the agreement.

Speaking to the media, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that the meeting aimed to "prevent the disintegration" of the deal and to "protect the interests of economic actors".

"We should send a message to Washington showing how much the position of countries participating in the deal differs from the stance of (US President) Donald Trump," Ryabkov added.

The announcement of the meeting came during Iranian President Hassan Rouhani visit to Europe to gather support for the accords.
