The Congress APCC tried to break barricade and March ahead, but they were stopped by the police contingent present at the venue. This led to a brawl between the police and Congress protestors. Congress leaders like former CM Tarun Gogoi, Debabrata Saikia, Rockybul Hussain and Gaurav Gogoi were also present during the protest.

Later police arrested several APCC protestors including Ripun Bora and leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia. Terming the day as a black in the country, Debabrata Saikia said that the demonetization had adversely affected the common people, while strengthening the financial position of the capitalists.

It may be mentioned that, the second anniversary of demonetization triggered a full blown Twitter war between the BJP and the Opposition parties on Thursday. While the Opposition described it as a "disaster" the BJP said, it was a "stringent action against corruption."
