Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday inaugurated a molecular virology lab at Dr. B. Barooah Cancer Institute and the fourteenth swab testing centre for coronavirus at the State Cancer Institute of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.
It is reported, this is the fifteenth laboratory constructed in the Institute. Cancer patients will be benefitted from the laboratory wherein there COVID-19 tests could be conducted. If the cancer patients are tested negative they will be attended by medical officials of Dr. B. Borooah Cancer Institute. If the patients are to be found positive, the patients will be shifted to the COVID-19 ward of GMCH.
Initially 100 to 150, tests can be conducted in a day. However, gradually 450 to 500 tests would be conducted.
From August 2, more COVID-19 centres will be operational.
