Assam | Bypolls for 4 assembly seats soon

Bypolls for Rangapara, Ratabari, Jania and Sonari assembly seats will be held within six months.

Three out of the four legislators, who got elected to Lok Sabha in the recent parliamentary polls, resigned from the Assam Legislative Assembly membership on Tuesday.

Newly elected BJP MP Pallab Lochan Das (Tezpur Lok Sabha), Kripanath Mallah (Karimganj Lok Sabha) and Congress MP Abdul Khaleque (Barpeta Lok Sabha) submitted their resignations to Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami on Tuesday.

BJP MLA from Sonari Topon Kumar Gogoi, who is also the State Power Minister, is yet to submit his resignation to the speaker.

Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly Mallah had represented the Ratabari seat.

Pallab Lochan Das, also the State Minister for Labour & Employment and Tea Tribes Welfare, represented the Rangapara seat, while Khaleque was the MLA from Jania.
