Assam TET teachers are upset with the Education minister SiddharthaBhattacharya for comparing the teacher eligibility test (TET) certificates todriving licences while justifying the need for its renewal.

As per reports, the teachers' society on June 18 in every district will stage protests in front of the Deputy Commissioner's Offices and will send memorandums to the Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal demanding regularisation of jobs.

The teachers are also planning to take up a sit-in-demonstration in Dispur of Guwahati on June 29.

Meanwhile thousands of copies of a letter have been sent separately to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) by TET teachers in Assam demanding regularisation of their jobs since Bhattacharya made the statement.

In a live programme on All India Radio, Guwahati, Bhattacharya said that the TET teachers have to renew their "licence" (the pass certificate of the TET exam) to continue their jobs, just like driving licences need to be renewed from time to time.
