Former Indian Football captain and Hamro Sikkim Party leader Bhaichung Bhutia on Thursday voiced his opinion against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB). Terming it “very dangerous” Bhutia said, “The bill is not in the interest of the people of Sikkim.”
“We are very close to Bangladesh and there are a lot of issues in Bengal and other Northeast states. So in the long run, even Sikkim can get affected,” he further stated.
The CAB was approved by the Union Cabinet on Wednesday. The bill seeks to grant citizenship to non-Muslim refugees facing religious persecution in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
