‘Bhut jolokia’ grenade with colour: DRL Tezpur’s innovation

The Defence Research Laboratory (DRL), Tezpur had made a trial run of hand grenades and other repellents to deal with terrorists by using 'bhut jolokia'- recognised as the hottest of spices.

Recently, the DRL has successfully upgraded the chilli grenade adding a special colour, which will help police or armed forces to identify the convict with the stain of the colour in their body.

The chilli grenade is a non-toxic weaponand when used would force a terrorist to come out of his hideouts as the smellis so pungent that it would literally choke them. The DRL scientists hadalready carried out trials for the hand grenades mixed with the world's hottestchilli and so far the tests have been satisfactory.

The bhut jolokia belongs to the capsicum Chinese family and is native to Assam. It is recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records as the hottest of all spices.

The non-lethal grenades devised by the DRL could numb the enemy and immobilize them without seriously wounding or killing them.
