Body Of Minor Who Died in MLA’s House Exhumed
The body of 12-year-old girl from Assam’s Lakhimpur district who died under mysterious circumstances in the residence of an Arunachal Pradesh MLA on May 20 has been exhumed from a cemetery.
The recommendation for the exhumation was put forward a week ago by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) as it was not satisfied with the Arunachal Pradesh police’s investigation into the death.
The body was exhumed on Saturday and handed over to the Arunachal Pradesh authorities for post-mortem.
It may be mentioned here that the girl was found hanging in the house of Techi Kaso, a Janata Dal (United) legislator representing the Itanagar Assembly constituency. She was an occasional visitor to Kaso’s house at Burung Basti in Naharlagun.
The NCPCR has expressed dissent over the Naharlagun police for not filing an FIR and handing the body over to the family who had accepted that their daughter had committed suicide.
The All Assam Adivasi Students’ Union (AAASU) lodged an FIR on June 1 after a team of the Assam State Commission investigated the case jointly for Protection of Child Rights (ASCPCR) and the NCPCR.
It is believed that the autopsy will bring forth the cause of death of the girl.
It may be mentioned here that after the girl’s death, the inmates of the house pulled her body down before the arrival of the police. The room where she was found dead was also demolished and burnt the ‘dupatta’ with which she was said to have killed herself.
