Ahead of the introduction of Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) in the Parliament, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval on Tuesday reviewed the security situation in Assam as well as the entire Northeast in New Delhi.
Doval chaired a meeting with the heads of the security forces and paramilitary forces. According to sources, he reviewed people’s perspective towards the bill.
It may be mentioned here that the CAB was passed by the Lok Sabha on January 8 but lapsed in Rajya Sabha. Now, the bill has been once again listed to introduce in the ongoing winter session of the Parliament. The CAB seeks to amend the Citizenship Act, 1955 and grant Indian citizenship to people from minority communities – Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis, and Christians – from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan to escape religious persecution.
