CAB Row: NF Railway Cancels/Reschedule Trains

In viewof the massive protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in Assam, theNortheast Frontier Railway on Wednesday cancelled many trains and rescheduled afew that originate from the state.

At least 14 trains have either been cancelled, shortterminated or diverted anticipating "disruptions in train movement,"NF Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Subhanan Chanda said in a statement.

The statement further reads as, "Out of these, eight trainshave been "completely" cancelled, while the rest have been shortterminated."

The statement also said that the Avadh Assam Express isrescheduled to originate from New Tinsukia and will remain cancelled betweenDibrugarh and New Tinsukia.

The Ledo-Guwahati Intercity Express, Dibrugarh Furketing-GuwahatiIntercity Express, Naharlagun-Tinsukia Intercity Express and Dekargaon-DibrugarhIntercity Express have been fully cancelled.

Protests erupted across the state since early morning againstthe Citizenship (Amendment) Bill which was passed by the Lok Sabha on Mondayand will be tabled in the Upper House on Wednesday.

OnTuesday, normal life across Assam came to a standstill due to an 11-hour NorthEast bandh called by the North East Students' Organisation (NESO), an umbrellabody of all the student bodies of the northeast, and a 12-hour Assam bandh bythe Left-Democratic organisations.
