The Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) will be introduced in the Lok Sabha on December 9 and will be taken up for passage the next day. The bill has been included in the list of business for Monday. Reportedly, the bill will be introduced by Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad will table the bill in the Lok Sabha.
The CAB, which seeks to grant citizenship to non-Muslim immigrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan if they faced religious persecution there, will be tabled in the Rajya Sabha after being dealt with by the Lower House of Parliament.
The bill will be passed in the Lok Sabha as BJP has a massive majority in the lower house. Meanwhile, the Union government is also confident of its passage in the Rajya Sabha with the support of several non-aligned regional parties.
