CM reviews law and situation ahead of publication of NRC draft

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal held a meeting with all Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police in Guwahati on Thursday before the publication of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) draft on 30th of this month.

Sonowal sought to ease fears among people on their names missing from the NRC, saying no one will be treated as a foreigner if his or her name does not appear in the final draft of the state's citizens list.

Sonowal also reviewed the law and situation as well as measures being taken to tackle any eventuality with the high-ranking officials.

The NRC is being upgraded in Assam to detect illegal immigrants staying in the state. Additional security forces have been deployed in the state, with all the support possible from the centre as well.

Sonowal had assured that there is nothing to worry if one's name does not appear on the draft list, as ample opportunity will be provided for claim and objections on the NRC draft.
