Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, while interacting with the Fifteenth Finance Commission in Shillong on Tuesday informed that the ban on coal mining in Meghalaya in 2014 has had a huge impact on the revenue of the State and has also affected other Allied sectors and this needs to be looked into and addressed.
He further informed the Commission that even though the state has moved in many aspects, however, challenges are still there in the health and education sectors and the government is tackling the two issues pro-actively.
"Around 30 lakhs of population will be covered in Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme and the health centres with high MMR and IMR will be given a special attention and all programmes and schemes will be monitored online for effective implementation," Sangma further said.
Meanwhile, in his speech, Nand Kishore Singh, Chairman, Fifteenth Finance Commission said that the commission would like to be a partner in helping Meghalaya to realise the dreams that look tangible and achievable.
Singh also said that the visions and dreams of the State mirror the ideas of the Finance Commission and share the optimism to help Meghalaya within the constitutional mandate to which the State is legitimately entitled.
