It has been a tough competition between the students ofstate board and CBSE to get admission in Cotton University as the highest markin CBSE is 499 out of 500 and that of state board is 478 out of 500. And if weanalyze, then there are hundreds of students from Guwahati itself who scored498 in CBSE board which means the rank holders of state board who scored atleast 478 will have to face tough problem to get admission in Cotton. And tomake it easier for the students of state board, the University has made thestandardization of marks between CBSE and state board.

In order to give relief to the students of state board,Cotton University has made the standardization. For example, 1=1:04 which meansif a student of CBSE scored 85% then the student of AHSEC will get 88.40%  and this system is called parity of both theboards state board and CBSE.

According to experts, the students of state board despite ofhaving a clear conception do not score high marks and that the moderationsystem in the state board is yet to be approved for which there is adifferentiation of marks in both the CBSE and state board.
