FormerWest Goalpara MLA Sheikh Shah Alam on Friday joined Asom Gana Parishad (AGP). Hehas resigned from Badruddin Ajmal-led AIUDF to join the regional party.
Shahjoined AGP in presence of party president Atul Bora and Assam Minister PhaniBhusan Choudhury. AGP leadership welcomed him to the party and hoped that the move will helpstrengthen the regional party.
ShahAlam was earlier elected to the Assam Assembly from West Goalpara contituencyin 2001 (from NCP ticket) and 2011 (from AIUDF ticket). He was defeated byCongress' Andur Rashid Mandal by a margin of 24,339 votes.
