The Centre on Friday decided to remove SpecialProtection Group (SPG) security cover given to Gandhi Family – UPA chairpersonSonia Gandhi, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
After the highest tier of security in the country isremoved from the Gandhi family, they will get Z-plus security by the CentralReserve Police Force (CRPF).
The decision was taken after multiple securityagencies carried out a threat perception assessment and found there was nodirect threat to them, government sources told media.
It may be mentioned here that earlier in August, thegovernment had also removed the SPG cover given to former Prime MinisterManmohan Singh and downgraded his security to the Z-plus category.
