Golaghat Nursing Home Emerges As New COVID-19 Hotspot

The Golaghat Nursing Home has emerged as the COVID-19 hotspot asthe management has allowed two of its laboratory technician to work in thehospital secretly despite knowing that they were assigned to collect swabsamples in the district COVID-19 hospital. The two lab technicians have alsotested positive for COVID-19 following which tensed situation prevails amongthe patients in the hospital.

Pranjal Bora and Rituraj Bora, the two lab technicians of the mobile medical unit under National Health Mission, have tested positive for COVID-19.

"They were found positive on Sunday and then only it came to our knowledge that they were doing overtime in the nursing home by flouting quarantine norms," said Jayanta Kumar Goswami, vice-chairman of the quarantine management committee.

He further added that the nursing home has been marked as a restricted zone and they are doing tests of all the patients, attendants, doctors, nurses, and other staff.

Goswami also alleged that GNH management has been using the punching machine to mark attendance, which is a clear violation of COVID Management Rules.

Moreover, locals and patients of the hospital alleged that the management has not taken any measures of COVID-19 despite knowing that maximum numbers of pregnant women come to the hospital for regular check-up or delivery.

Golaghat deputy commissioner Bibhash Chandra Modi,however, informed that on Wednesday, 92 samples were collected, out of whichresults of 5 samples came positive.

Thepositive cases include four nurses and one carpenter.

"Today 72 samples of the second line of contact have been sent for testing. The joint director of health services has been asked to conduct an inquiry into the alleged negligence by GNH," deputy commissioner Modi said. "Moreover, a magistrate level probe has also been ordered, and depending on the findings of these inquiries, appropriate legal action will be taken against the management," Modi added.

The district administration has restricted thetiming of commercial establishments in the Golaghat town.

Fromnow on, all shops will remain open from 9 in the morning till 6 in the evening.

Currently, there are 75 active cases of COVID 19 in the Golaghat district.
