Reiterating state government's commitment to develop sport as an exhaustive discipline, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that his government's step of setting up a sports university in Chabua is going on in full swing.
He said that the Vice-Chancellor as well as the Registrar have already been appointed and works are being undertaken on war footing to start the university.
In a move to hone the tennis skills among the youngsters, Chief Minister Sonowal inaugurated Dibrugarh District Tennis Club at a simple function held at Dibrugarh today. Chief Minister Sonowal said that the state-of-the-art tennis court, developed with an expenditure of Rs. 65 lakh, would be able to fulfill the long-pending demand for a tennis court in Dibrugarh.
He also said that as a part of his government's aim to make Guwahati the sports capital and Assam as a sports hub his government has been taking a slew of measures to develop sports infrastructure in the state along with organizing national and international level sports events in several sporting venues across the state.
