Guwahati Likely to Undergo Lockdown Again: Himanta

Assam Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said that Guwahati might go for lockdown again if the situation demands.

Addressing the media today at the National Health Mission office, the minister said that the decision of lockdown will be taken after monitoring the situation. If the situation worsens in the city, the government might declare a lockdown.

Theminister further stated that 50,000 tests will be conducted within June 16 andthe process of tests will be started from 9 AM. "The tests will be conducted at12 places and based on the result the decision of lockdown will be taken," theminister said.

Hefurther stated that the government has discussed the lockdown issue subtly.

Sarma further reiterated that the state government is worried about the vehicles carrying essential commodities adding that the loading-unloading places will be declared as containment zone in order to prevent any further spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The minister informed that there are 153 godowns of food items in Guwahati and people in and around these areas have been tested positive of the virus and therefore, the government has decided to declare these areas as containment zone.
