Himanta attacks AGP on Citizenship Bill

This afternoon, Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma called a press conference, where he severely attacks Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) on Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 issue.

First and foremost, Sarma had announced the list of uncontested winners of saffron party ahead of Panchayat Polls.
"157 GP candidates along with 11 Anchalik candidates have won as uncontested. Our party has contested 407 ZPC (Zila Parishad Council) out of 420 ZPC constituencies. BJP has left 13 seats in ZPC for Allies'." Sarma said.

On the topic of AGP-BJP alliance, the minister clearly said that BJP had not tied with AGP for various reasons.

In Panchayat campaigning, to get support from voters AGP said that "We are against of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016. So, we did not march with BJP. We have decided to go alone for greater interest of Assamese people."

"AGP has promised to voters that they will protect 'Jati', 'Mati', and 'Bheti' (community, land and foundation) of Assam."

"We came to know that in some places, AGP has marched with Congress."

"Congress is an enemy of both AGP and BJP."

"AIUDF is enemy of Assam's people."

"AGP has not right to protest against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016. 900' people had sacrificed their lives demanding to keep 1951 as base year."

"But, after 1951,around 1 crore immigrants got citizenship. AGP leaders accepted 1971 as base year. In the regime of Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, Citizenship Bill had been amended. So, they have no right to oppose the Bill."

The minister also attacked Islamic fundamentalists saying as "Maulana Arshad Madani and Islamic fundamentalists are being silent on NRC issue. But, once they were vocal on Assam issues."
