In their final group match of the ICC men's cricket world cup 2019, India defeated Sri Lanka by 7 wickets to end the group stage with 15 points from 9 games.

India won 7 matches, lost 1 and the match against New Zealand was washed out.

India, who have already qualified for the semi-finals, riding on a twin century knocks by opener Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul surpassed Sri Lanka's 264/7 in the 44th over with 7 wickets to spare.

Batting first, Sri Lanka lost four quick wickets but a 125-run stand between Angelo Mathews and Lahiru Thirimanne helped the Islanders reach a total of 264.

In reply, India looked in Midas touch right from the word go and KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma shared a 189-run opening stand.

Both openers scored centuries and India overcame the target with ease.

For Sri Lanka Angelo Mathews scored 113 and Lahiru Thirimanne scored 53.

Jasprit Bumrah picked up 3 wickets from his 10 overs and gave away only 37 runs.

For India, Rohit Sharma scored 103 runs and KL Rahul scored 113 runs.

With today's century, Rohit Sharma now has five centuries in this World Cup and six in all world cups and shares the top spot with Sachin Tendulkar in terms of centuries scored in World Cup all world cup matches.

For his third consecutive century, Rohit Sharma was declared player of the match.
