Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday interacted with the tax officials and other tax sector stakeholders in Guwahati and said that India is still the fastest growing economy in the world. She also said that Narendra Modi-led Centre’s priority is to give a boost to consumption.
Despite the recent economic slowdown Sitharaman said, “If you compare the economies globally, then we (the Indian economy) are still the fastest growing.”
She further attacked previous UPA governments and said that the UPA rule was marked by higher inflation and one after another scam. “They led the country in corruption and could not control prices,” said the Finance Minister.
