In a major feat, India's 2018 Tiger Census has made an entry into the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's largest on-camera survey.
Hailing this a remarkable achievement, Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Prakash Javadekar tweeted, "The All India Tiger Estimation is now in the #GuinnessWorldRecord for being the largest camera-trap #wildlife survey, a great moment indeed & a shining example of #AatmanirbharBharat!"
All India Tiger Estimation's fourth cycle had estimated 2967 tigers, which accounted for 75% of the global tiger population. The figures were announced last year by PM Narendra Modi.
Javadekar also said in his tweet that under the leadership of Modi, India has been able to double the number of tigers four years before the target.
