Japanese Encephalitis cases increase in flood aftermath
Cases of death due to being infected by Japanese Encephalitis (JE) has witnessed a rising trend in Assam. The outbreak of JE and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) was seen in the aftermath of the devastating floods in the Lakhimpur.
So far, JE has claimed five lives and has infected 35 people. It has been reported, that JE, AES infected cases rose in the month of July.
There are 26 patients under treatment in the North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital alone.
It has raised brows of concerns as most the victims of JE are mostly children under the age of 14 and most importantly, children who had been vaccinated against JE were also infected by the virus.
