Japanese Encephalitis (JE) has claimed one more life in the State. The victim has been identified as Mantu Das of Tempur village in Hailakandi and was undergoing treatment at Silchar Medical College & Hospital.
The disease has spread to almost every district of the State killing around more than 70 people.
JE is vector-borne encephalitis transmitted by Culex groups of mosquitoes. These mosquitoes breed mainly in rice fields and large water bodies rich in aquatic vegetations. Migratory birds along with pigs in the community play an important role in the transmission of JE from one area to another area.
