Kokrajhar: CM Sarma Visits Kin Of 2 Minor Sisters Found Dead In Forest

Two days after an unfortunate incident struck Kokrajhar, where two minor girls were found hanging from a tree, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday visited the family of the deceased.

The Chief Minister said that the two sisters were either murdered or may have ended their lives under duress and the state police have been instructed to unearth the cause of their death at the earliest.

"The Government will take stringent action if there is any foul play. If the victims were forced to do self-harm, Police shall find the reasons for the same," Dr. Sarma said.

The minister also said that many people in parts of Western Assam live under constant insecurity, threats, and fear.

The family of the girls have infact claimed that they were raped and murdered.

On his visit to the family, the Chief Minister added, that he came over to send across a message that the government will not tolerate any kind of atrocities against the poor and downtrodden.

Further, the Chief Minister said, " Women safety shall always remain top priority of Assam Govt. Atrocity in any form against poor too shall not be tolerated".

"BTC Chief @PramodBoroBTR and Kokrajhar East MLA Sri Lawrence Islary were also present with me when I met the family," he added.

Both the sisters were found dead under mysterious circumstances on the night of June 11 inside a forest in Abhayaukti village. They went missing on Friday afternoon.

The corpses have been sent for autopsy to the Civil Hospital in Kokrajhar.
