The 19-year old Lalremsiami of Indian women’s hockey team from Mizoram has been trending on social media as she has not given up and has decided to play the finals of the FIH Women’s Series Finals in Hiroshima despite the demise of her father.
Lalremsiami returned home on Tuesday after her series who missed her father’s funeral which was an emotional homecoming for her when she reached her village in remote Kolashib district, 80 kms away from Aizawl.
Meanwhile, India had already secured a place in the final round of Tokyo Olympic qualifiers after beating lower-ranked Chile in the semi-finals and went on to win the tournament by defeating Japan in the final.
Lalremsiami, even after got to know about her father’s death due to a heart attack on Friday last has shown great courage and team spirit by standing with her team instead of returning home.
After India’s victory, team captain Rani Rampal dedicated it to Lalremsiami’s father.
Mizoram government had greeted her back home along with the entire village.
India defeated Chile by 4-2 in the semi-finals which was followed by 3-1 win over Japan as India clinched the FIH Women’s Series Finals Hiroshima 2019 title on Sunday.
The World No.9 Indian team had already qualified for the FIH Olympic Qualifiers 2019 on Saturday after securing a place in the final of the competition.
