CM Sonowal Meets Amit Shah | Highlights

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal had a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence today over certain pertinent issues of Assam including BTR agreement, providing ST status to 6 indigenous communities of the state, NRC and implementation of the 6th clause of the Assam Accord.

The meeting was also attended by State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Joint Secretary in Union Home Ministry for North East Satyendra Garg and Chief Secretary of Assam Kumar Sanjay Krishna.

CM Sonowal tweeted about the meeting and termed it fruitful.

After the meeting, Sarma said that the Centre and the state government will work jointly on the implementation of the BTR agreement. He further informed that the State Ministers' Council has been ordered to submit the report to the Union Home Ministry on the issue of providing ST status to 6 indigenous communities within a month.

It was further informed that the Centre would support the proposal of 20% revision of NRC in the districts of the state bordering Bangladesh and 10% NRC revision in other districts of Assam.

Regarding the matter involving implementation of the 6th clause of the Assam Accord, the Minister said that the State government would forward the proposal of the expert committee to the Centre after having it examined by a legal expert.
