Lockdown Extended in Mizoram

To break the transmission of Covid-19, lockdown in Aizawl would be extended for another one week. The information has come from an official of Mizoram.

Health minister Dr. R. Lalthangliana on Friday unanimously agreed to extend lockdown in Mizoram, especially in Aizawl for another one week as Covid19 cases continue to rise in the state.

The minister agreed to the decision at a joint meeting with the health department officials, various departments which deal with Covid19 and representatives of churches, NGOs and local task forces.

According to Medical Operational Team on Covid19 chairman and ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) MLA Dr. ZR Thiamsanga, same unlock guidelines will continue in other parts of the state. He said the meeting reviewed about the existing lockdown and present Covid19 scenario in the state.

The existing lockdown in Aizawl is scheduled to be lifted on June 14.

As per sources, the meeting decided to expedite vaccination drive for people in the age group 18-44 years.
State nodal officer of Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) Dr. Pachuau Lalmalsawma said 58% of Covid19 cases detected in April were locally transmitted cases and the local transmission rate increased rapidly as it accounted for 98 per cent of Covid19 cases found between first May and June 10, he said.

During this year, at least 53 Covid19 fatalities were reported in the state, of which 25 fatalities were reported in May, he said.

As per the health officials, state now has 49 Covid-19 Care Centres (CCC) with a capacity of 2,479 across the state, including 15 in Aizawl. There are 168 Community Covid19 Care Centres, which can accommodate 3,519 patients and 2 paid CCC with a capacity of 41.

Moreover, Zoram Medical College (ZMC) is the only dedicated Covid19 hospital in the state. Mizoram on Friday reported 210 Covid-19 cases, taking the state's tally to 14,743.

At least 200 people were discharged from various Covid19 care facilities, taking the total recovery to 11,304.
The state now has 3,378 active Covid19 cases.
