Manipur CM sends home 179 Nepalese trafficking victims

N Biren Singh, Manipur Chief Minister has handed over 179 trafficked Nepalese citizen including 147 women to the officials of the country.

As per reports, the victims were handed over to a to a Nepalese team led by Counsellor Prakash Adhikari at an official event held in Khuman Lampak in Imphal on Sunday.

The Manipur Home Department issued an order on February 16 to pave way for their deportation/repatriation to Nepal after they were send a letter from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs on February 14.

The victims were rescued from different hotels of Imphal, Moreh and other places earlier this month who were believe that to be trafficked to different cities of South Asian and Middle-East countries through Myanmar.

They have been staying in eight different centers run by some NGOs.

They were sent off in eight buses under the supervision of Pravash Adhikari, a counsellor of the Nepalese Embassy and escorted up to Panitanki – Kakarbhitta border by officials of the Manipur Social Welfare Department and police.

This is considered as one of the biggest rescue operation in the region.
