Although Government is busy advertising the Swachh Bharat Mission of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the scheme has not been implemented corruption free in many villages of Assam. Reports of poor construction of toilets have been continuously increasing in the State.
Recently, residents of Ward No. 4 of Bilasipara town complaint that the toilets constructed in their houses were so weak that a slight push on the walls by a finger can collapse them. Speaking to Pratidin Time, a resident of the area said, “Corruption is unrestricted in all government schemes and construction of toilets under Swachh Bharat Mission is no exception.”
The locals also alleged the contractors and members of the town committee pocketed the fund allocated for construction of the toilets. They alleged that Rs. 12,000 was allocated to every toilets, but the construction of each toilets was done with less than Rs. 2000.
It should be noted that as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission toilets were supposed to be constructed in people’s houses where none existed earlier.
