Measles claims lives of 7 children in Pakistan

After outbreak of Nipah virus (NiV) in Kerala, reports of seven children losing their lives to measles in Sindh's Kashmore-Kandhkot and Ghotki districts of Pakistan have resurfaced.

According to reports, two-year-old Riaz Malik, three-year-old Sadori Malik and four-year-old Ayesha Marwari had been infected with the virus. They suffered for around a week after which succumbed to the virus on Friday.

In another case, two-year-old Shamail Malik died in a suburban locality of Tangwani taluka in the same district.

District Health Officer Kartar Lal said that there are reports of measles cases coming in from different parts of Tangwani area.

The medical teams have been dispatched to the infected area and are treating the ailing children and providing immunisation to others.

Further, the blood samples of deceased have been sent to Islamabad for laboratory tests in order to establish the cause of these deaths.
