The new Motor Vehicles(Amendment) Act that imposes hefty penalties for violating traffic norms was implementedin Assam on Monday. Following the implementation, violation of different roadtransport rules will be fined at different rates.
It was observed on Wednesday that several people were fined by the Transport Officials under the new act in Guwahati. "The decisions were taken not to raise revenues but to save lives," said a Transport official.
