Mizoram: Head Of The World’s Largest Family Ziona Chana Passes Away

Ziona Chana, head of the world's largest family, has passed away on Sunday following kidney failure and other complications in Mizoram's Aizwal. He was 76.

Born on 21 July 1945, Chana holds the world record for being the head of the words largest existing family with 39 wives, 94 children, 14 daughter-in-law, 33 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. There is a total of 181 family members and counting.

Chana hails from the village of Baktawng in central Serchhip district, Mizoram. which is 100 kilometres (62 mi) to the south of Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram.

Mizoram Chief Minister took to Twitter and condoled the demise of Chana and bid him farewell.

"With heavy heart, Mizoram bid farewell to Mr. Zion-a (76), believed to head the world's largest family, with 38 wives and 89 children. Mizoram and his village at Baktawng Tlangnuam has become a major tourist attraction in the state because of the family. Rest in Peace Sir!" he tweeted along with a group picture of the huge family.

Notably, Chana featured in popular show Ripley's Believe It Or Not in 2011 and 2013 for having the world's largest family.

As per a report, Chana lived in a 100-room four-storey building with his family.
