NorthEast United FC have signed Columbian centre-back Janeiler Rivas Palacios as the replacement for the injured Mislav Komorski who suffered an injury during the 2-1 defeat to Bengaluru FC at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on January 30.
The replacement Rivas is a ball-playing defender blessed with both technique and composure in abundance. The 30-year-old Colombian centre-back is known to build attacks from the back line and is also adept at more traditional aspects of the job such as winning headers and making interceptions. Riva last played for Colombian side Millonarios FC and even made an appearance in the prestigious Copa Libertadores for them against seven-time Brazilian champions Corinthians.
Standing tall at 6′ 6", Rivas presents a commanding, well-built figure who's difficult to get the better of either in the air or in a foot race. Fondly called 'Chiquito', Rivas is rarely outmaneuvered by opposition strikers. Most impressive, though, is his ability with the ball and the ability to keep his cool in possession.
Rivas will be replacing injured Croatian centre-back, Mislav Komorski, to partner the defensive duties with Mato Grgic to fight for the title glory for the 2018/19 season.
Rivas was considered one of the best defenders in the 2016 season of the Peruvian Premier League. Rivas spent his initial days in Uruguay, playing for Villa Teresa, Club Atlantida, Basanez and Cerro.
