New Union Cabinet Committees To Boost Employment
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday ordered the formation of two new Cabinet Committees focusing on employment and economic growth.
This order comes close on the heels of a report by the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) that showed India’s unemployment rate at a 45-year high of 6.1 per cent in 2017-18.
It may be mentioned here that the Cabinet Committee on Employment & Skill Development constitutes of 10 members, which include Home Minister Amit Shah along with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman among others.
On the other hand, the Cabinet Committee on Investment & Growth comprises of five members including Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and Road Transport & Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari.
It may be mentioned here that economy has been a major concern for the government with the GDP rate dropping to 5,8 percent in the last quarter of 208-19, as per an NSSO report.
