01. Assam's Active COVID-19 Cases Crosses 10,000 Mark

Assam recorded 1457 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, taking the total count of active cases to 10180. Kamrup (M) reported 275 cases today while Dibrugarh touched 136 and Sonitpur is at 116. The positivity rate continues to be low at 5.36%.  27161 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. Furthermore, 1085 patients were discharged today and the total number of recoveries has reached 31442. The death toll stands at 101, while, the total positive cases to date have touched at 41726.

02. Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh Dies At 64

Rajya Sabha MP and former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh passed away on Saturday. Singh, 64, was ill for a very long time and was undergoing treatment in a Singapore hospital.

04. GST collection slips to 87,422 cr in July

The government collected GST or Goods and Services Tax stood at Rs 87,422 crore last month, data from the Finance Ministry's Department of Revenue showed on Saturday. Total revenue earned by central and state governments after regular settlement during the month stood at Rs 39,467 crore in case of CGST and Rs 40,256 crore in case of SGST, the statement added.

05. 9 Killed After Crane Collapsed at Visakhapatnam

Nine people have been killed and one seriously injured after a massive crane collapsed at the Hindustan Shipyard Limited in Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday. The crane collapsed during load-testing trials. Four of them were shipyard employees and the rest were contract staff, Visakhapatnam police commissioner RK Meena informed.

06. 86 Dead In Punjab Toxic Liquor Case

The number of deaths in the Punjab toxic liquor tragedy has escalated to 86 on Saturday while Chief Minister Amarinder Singh suspended seven excise officials and six policemen, officials said. The government also announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased, they said.

India's total number of recoveries from coronavirus (COVID-19) has surged close to 11 lakh, while the case fatality rate has declined from 3.33 percent in mid-June to 2.15 percent, the lowest since lockdown began in March, the Union Health Ministry said on Saturday.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has released a set of social media usage guidelines for its nearly 1.62 lakh personnel directing them to disclose their user identification on all platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram to the organisation, an official order stated.

10. Maharashtra: 5 Killed, Several Wounded In Boiler Blast

A massive blast in a boiler was reported in Manas Agro Industries and Sugar Ltd. plant. At least five workers reportedly were killed and several others have been critically wounded in a boiler explosion in a factory at Bela in Maharashtra.

14. Arunachal: 7-Days Lockdown in Areas with More Cases

The East Siang district administration in Arunachal Pradesh has imposed a 7-day total lockdown from August 1 to August 7 in Pasighat, the district headquarters, and its rural peripheries (Ruksin sub-division) as the COVID-19 cases has increased rapidly in some parts of the state.

15. Mizoram Govt Extends Partial Lockdown till Aug 31

The Mizoram government on Friday extended state-wide partial lockdown till August 31 in order to prevent any further spread of COVID-19. During the course of the lockdown period, all the international and inter-state borders will continue to remain closed barring three entry points- Vairengte and Bairabi on the Mizoram-Assam border and Kanhmun on the state border with Tripura, which will be opened for commodities.
