01. Farm Bills: Haryana Farmers To Block Highways As Protest

As part of the protest against the central government's refusal to withdraw contentious farm sector bills, the Haryana wing of farmer's organization Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) has said it would be blocking all major highways in the state for three hours from 12PM to 3PM on Sunday.

02. Yogi Adityanath Announces India's "Biggest" Film City In UP

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday announced that the UP government will be setting up the country's "biggest" film city in the state's Gautam Buddh Nagar. The announcement was made during a review meeting of development projects of the Meerut division, comprising Meerut, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr, Hapur, Baghpat and Gautam Buddh Nagar districts.

03. India Overtakes USA In COVID-19 Recoveries

India overtook USA today in terms of total number of recoveries from COVID-19. This was informed by a press release issued by PIB that read: "In a landmark global achievement, India has overtaken the USA and become the top country in terms of global Covid-19 recoveries." The press release further said that "India has reported the highest number of total recoveries with more than 42 lakh [42,08,431] Covid patients recovered and discharged."

04. RS Passes Epidemic Diseases (Amendment) Bill, 2020

The Rajya Sabha on Saturday passed the Epidemic Diseases (Amendment) Bill, 2020. The Bill amends the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 to include protections for healthcare service personnel combating epidemic diseases and expands the powers of the central government to prevent the spread of such diseases.

05. Print Media Most Credible Source Of News: Survey

As per a latest survey, print media has emerged as the most credible source of consumption of news over any other traditional or digital platforms. Print media came first scoring 62 per cent on the news credibility index, followed by radio with 57 per cent and television news with 56 per cent, the survey by consultancy firm Ormax Media stated.

06. 97 Died In Shramik Special Trains: Rail Min

Union minister for Indian Railways on Saturday said in the Rajya Sabha that 97 people died on board the Shramik Specials admitting migrant labourers lost lives in the trains which were run to take them back to their hometowns during the COVID-19 lockdown.

07. RS Passes Bankruptcy Code Amendment Bill

The Rajya Sabha on Saturday passed the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Second Amendment) Bill, 2020, whereby fresh insolvency proceedings will not be initiated for at least six months starting from March 25 amid the coronavirus pandemic, a PTI report stated. Replying to a debate on the Bill in the House, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the intention of the IBC is to keep companies a "going concern" and not liquidate them, the report said.

08. Assam Reports 2595 New Covid-19 Cases

Assam detected 2595 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday. Out of 35175 tests done in the last 24 hours, Kamrup M reported 553; Lakhimpur-199; Jorhat- 205 and Golaghat- 173. The positivity rate has risen to 7.38%. The active caseload of the state is 31218 while 123684 recoveries have been registered.

09. Naga Peace Deal: NSCN-IM Demands For Separate Flag, Constitution

The National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) (I-M), on Friday said that the naga peace deal will only be honourable and acceptable if Naga national flag and Yehzabo (constitution) becomes part of the final settlement. The stand by NSCN-IM comes after a joint council meeting at the central headquarters in Hebron near Dimapur of Nagaland was held.

10. Robbery In Guwahati SBI, Manager Attacked

In a shocking and horror-inspiring incident, the female manager of a SBI Customer Service Point was attacked by perpetrators in broad day light in Guwahati today. The two perpetrators, who came in a red Maruti 800 car, assaulted Rupali Sinha – the woman manager of the SBI Seva Kendra in Katahbari – and looted money.

11. "Hostels To Remain Closed" – HBS

Hostels of educational institutions in Assam will not open now. However, students can take classes from their home districts itself by joining any educational institute. This was announced by Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today. The Minister also reiterated the fact that the students coming to schools from September 21 have to bring along with them a written NOC, without which, they won't be allowed in the premises.

12. One Dead, Another Injured In Silapathar Accident

In a tragic incident on Saturday evening, two people were killed after their bike collided head-on with another vehicle on National highway 515 in Dimou of Silapathar. The incident took place at around 6:10 PM when the bike bearing registration number 'AS 22 E 7335' was hit by an oncoming loaded Ape minivan on the national highway.

13. Assam: Eight More Succumb To Covid-19

Assam registered eight more coronavirus related deaths on Saturday, taking the state's death tally to 548. The health minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet said, "Very sad & anguished to inform that 12 more COVID19 positive patients have succumbed to the disease."

14. Case Registered Against Pijush Hazarika

A case has been lodged against State Health Minister Pijush Hazarika at Panbazaar police station for allegedly violating COVID-19 protocols. One Tarun Dutta has lodged the case against the minister alleging that he had participated in a public rally without wearing mask.

15. Man Murdered In Uzan Bazar

A person who was grievously assaulted by a gang of 3 men in Uzan Bazar last Saturday succumbed to his injuries today. Identified as Nizamuddin Ali, the deceased was reportedly subjected to fatal blows by Moni Das, Rajiv Das and Rupam Das while coming back from his sister's place on the ill-fated night of September 12 after he denied giving money demanded by the perpetrators.
