Nirav Modi’s custody extended

Bad news for Nirav Modi, as a London court on Thursday extended the judicial custody of the fugitive diamond merchant till November 11. The custody has been extended in connection with the Rs. 13,500-crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud and money laundering case.

He is currently lodged in the Wandsworth Prison in south-west London and appeared before the Westminster Magistrates’ Court Judge via video link.

Modi and his nephew Mehul Choksi are the prime accused in the PNB loan default case. They fled the country in January 2018 before the scam came to light. Nirav Modi was arrested in March 2019 by Scotland Yard in connection with the case and has not returned to India despite repeated summonses from Indian probe agencies.
