One citizen one tree campaign under GOM

The Government of Meghalaya has taken an initiative theMeghalaya One Citizen One Tree campaign which will launch on World EnvironmentDay. The campaign aims at people's involvement in planting more trees as it islosing its forest cover. All districts in the state will be covered in the massplantation drive wherein all indigenous plants raised by the community acrossthe state will be provided to citizens who want to participate in the campaign.

Various activities have been planned which includes planting of1 million trees in 306 spring sheds located across the state by the Soil &Water Conservation Department under the Rejuvenation and Climate Proofing ofSpring-sheds for Livelihood, Water and Food Security in Meghalaya funded by theMinistry of Environment Forest & Climate Change, GOI under National AdaptationFund for Climate Change through NABARD which is the National ImplementingEntity.

The initiative will also mobilize schools, eco-clubs to be partof the campaign with an aim to plant trees in at least 100 schools perdistrict.

A social media campaign centred around Meghalaya OneCitizen One Tree has been launched wherein citizens can register to participatein the mass plantation targeting 1.5 million trees by clicking on theregistration form provided on social media platforms.The citizens will then beprovided with planting material/ saplings at District and Blocklevels. Plans to Incentivize surviving trees after 2 years of planting isalso being given importance in the campaign.
