‘Opposition Forces Should Unite Against CAA’: Akhil

Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) peasant leader and RTI activist Akhil Gogoi on Monday said opposition forces will have to unite against CAA.

The KMSS leader who recently tested negative for COVID-19 is reportedly now suffering from other ailments and underwent two tests in Gauhati Medical College and Hospital today.

Addressing sections of media here, Gogoi asserted, "Every opposing force should unite for the fight against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019".

"Mere formation of new parties by AASU (All Assam Students Union) and KMSS will be of no use," the leader said.

Further asserting Gogoi said, "Everyone should participate under a single party, symbol and flag".

Akhil Gogoi appealed to the people to continue their fight against CAA or the Jaati (Assamese community) will be over.

"If all unite together, existing Assam politics will be in turmoil," he said, adding, "Do not make political decisions for personal gains".

Criticising the state government's newly declared Arunodoi scheme, Gogoi said, the state should pay Rs.10,000 to each needy family instead of Rs. 830. Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, "Rs.830 is not enough".
