PhD scholar found dead in TU hostel

A research scholar at the Tezpur central university (TCU) has been found dead in his hostel room at the university, police said on Saturday.

The PhD scholar — identified as 34-year-old Kangkan Kalita — was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Saturday's afternoon and it was yet to be ascertained whether it was suicide or murder. As per reports, he was a Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) research scholar at the varsity.

The research scholar, who hailed from Garmur in Jorhat, was last seen by his friends on Friday night. He did not come out on morning hours and his friends thought he might be sleeping after a late night study session. Kangkan didn't appear for his exams in the morning hours.

There was no response when they knocked on the door of his room late on Saturday. He was a boarder of the Saraighat CV Raman Men's Hostel.

The friends saw him lying upside down in his bed and foam was coming out from his mouth.

After which, they informed police who arrived on the scene and Police sent the body for post-mortem in the Kanaklata Civil Hospital, Tezpur.

According to his friends, he was suffering from epilepsy disease.
