The Congress and AllIndia United Democratic Front (AIUDF) have opposed the 13-member committee'sdecision of giving constitutional safeguard to the Assamese and the indigenouspeople of the state.

AASU in its firstmeeting of the committee held on July 24 at North Block in New Delhi proposedto provide the constitutional safeguard based on the report provided by formerAssam Legislative Assembly Speaker Pranab Gogoi earlier.

AASU said that it should be made clear as who will get the safeguard according to Clause 6 of the Assam Accord. AASU in its meeting said that it should be clarified as who will get the constitutional safeguard, who are Assamese and who is not, who is indigenous, who will be protected and therefore it should be based on Gogoi's report to which the two opposition parties Congress and AIUDF has opposed the decision.
